My Dryer Vent Hose Is Leaking Water

Leaking water from a dryer vent hose, also known as a dryer vent pipe, occurs when condensation accumulates either inside or outside the vent pipe. When the vent pipe gets too cold and the dryer is producing hot air, condensation forms, converts to liquid and a leak occurs. Keeping the dryer vent pipe warm will prevent future leaks. Repairing the problem requires locating and eliminating the source of cool air near the vent pipe.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the area surrounding the dryer vent pipe for cold air. Check the exterior wall hole containing the pipe. Apply a generous layer of caulk around the dryer vent hole to seal any air leaks.

    • 2

Check the vent pipe for any kinks preventing airflow. Eliminate excess 90-degree bends in the vent pipe. Apply heating and cooling duct tape to the vent pipe seams.

    • 3

Wrap insulation around the dryer vent pipe. Apply duct tape as needed to secure. Make sure the entire vent pipe is covered with none of the pipe metal exposed.
