How to Repair a Kenmore Gas Dryer With No Heat

Kenmore manufactures a line of gas dryers for the home that heats the clothes by forcing air through the machine’s gas-burner assembly. If the airflow is insufficient or too much lint is built up, then the dryer may not produce enough heat to dry the clothes. A complete lack of heat in the dryer may be because of a problem with the igniter. Troubleshooting a Kenmore gas dryer that won’t heat properly is simple to do and usually only takes a few minutes, following procedures that apply to most gas dryers.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the gas valve located behind the dryer and make sure it is in the “Open” position. If the valve was accidentally turned off, the dryer won’t be able to produce heat.

    • 2

Take out the lint trap and remove any lint stuck within the lint trap housing. Remove all the lint from the trap and around the rim of the housing to prevent such buildup from happening.

    • 3

Remove the exhaust hose from the dryer and check for any kinks or other obstructions. Run hot water down the hose to remove any lint buildup.

    • 4

Check the outdoor exhaust vent and take out any leaves, bird nests or other debris blocking the vent. Take the time to do this at least once a month to ensure there are no obstructions.

    • 5

Remove the bottom toe panel to reach the burner assembly. Turn the dryer on a cycle with high heat and watch the igniter. Check for signs of a glow or sparks. If you don’t see anything happening with the igniter, it means the igniter is faulty and needs replacing.
