Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dryer from the electrical outlet to avoid the possibility of an accidental electrical shock. Open the dryer’s front door and locate the hinges attaching the door to the dryer.

    • 2

Remove the screws on the control console with a Philips head screwdriver. Gently remove the control console by pulling it forward. This will release the tabs securing the console to the dryer. Set the control console to the side and out of the way. Refrain from disconnecting any wires running from the control console to the dryer.

    • 3

Insert a paint scraper into the gap between the front and top dryer panel to unlock the retaining clips. These clips secure the top panel to the dryer. Carefully remove the top panel by lifting it up off the dryer.

    • 4

Disconnect the wires from the door switch terminals. Remember where the wires go for proper reassembly. Carefully pull the front panel off the Maytag dryer. Remove the dryer drum light by unscrewing the screw that holds it in place.

    • 5

Detach the dryer drum from the sides of the dryer by loosening the retaining bolts securing the drum in place with a socket wrench. Release the tension belt by pushing the idler pulley -- located beside the motor and drum -- forward. Carefully slip the belt from the idler pulley and motor pulley.

    • 6

Pull the dryer drum carefully out of the dryer. Scrape the old felt seal off with a small paint scraper. Scrape all lingering adhesive off the seal area. Alternatively, use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the seal and scrape the adhesive off.

    • 7

Dampen several paper towels with rubbing alcohol. Wipe the seal area with the rubbing alcohol. The rubbing alcohol will clean the surface while removing lingering stickiness left behind from the old felt seal. Let the surface dry for several minutes.

    • 8

Apply a thin layer of adhesive on the surface of the seal area. Press the rough side of the felt seal around the dryer drum until the entire felt seal is attached to the surface with the adhesive. Let it dry for 15 to 20 minutes.

    • 9

Reassemble the drum into the dryer and reattach all panels. Plug the dryer’s power cord back into the electrical outlet. Wait two hours for the adhesive the fully dry before using the dryer.
