The Bosch WFF2000 Drum Is Not Turning

The Bosch WFF2000 is a front-loading consumer washing machine. If you experience a problem with the drum not turning, you can troubleshoot the problem on your own. You might even be able to fix it yourself and eliminate the need for a service call.
  1. Check The Power

    • If the drum is not turning in the washer, it might be the result of a power failure. Check another appliance or light in the home to determine if your home has power. If so, check the home’s breaker box to determine if the washer has tripped a circuit breaker. If so, reset the breaker. Doing this should get the drum turning again. You can also try flipping and resetting the breaker to power cycle the unit if the breaker was not tripped.

    Testing The Unit

    • Try selecting different cycles from the control panel, such as spin and rinse. During each of the cycles, watch the washer drum to determine if it is spinning. This is so that you can determine if the drum does not turn in all of the cycles or just some of them. If you end up needing to have the washer serviced, this is something that you will need to know.

    Replacing Carbon Brushes in Motor

    • Worn out carbon brushes in the washer’s motor are a common reason for the drum to stop turning, especially if the unit has been used a lot. You can pay a technician to replace the brushes, or you can do it on your own. The replacement brushes can be purchased from a local repair shop. Before starting the repair, disconnect power to the washer. Take the back panel off the washer by first removing the two screws that hold it on. Once you have the panel off, you will see the motor, which is attached to a wire terminal block. Release the wire terminal block and lift out the motor. You will have to stand the motor up on its end to have access to the carbon brushes. The brushes have a wire clipped to them, which you need to unclip so that you can pull each brush out. Once out, replace with new brushes and reassemble the motor.

    Faulty Armature Protection Fuse

    • If replacing the carbon brushes did not get the drum turning, you might have a faulty armature protection fuse. This fuse is in the motor and can cause the drum to stop spinning. Since it is in the motor, this repair is best done by a qualified service technician.
