Move your GE washer away from the wall, then disconnect the power cord from the outlet.
Insert a putty knife into the crevice between the front and top panel, and then use the putty knife to press in the tabs located on each corner.
Lift up and remove the top panel, then the washer tub will be accessible.
Remove the 5/16-inch hex head screws from the four dampening straps, which will allow you to disconnect the straps from the tub using a hex head driver.
Press down on the eight tabs on the tub cover to disengage it, then remove the tub cover. Pull up on the agitator, the plastic pole in the middle of the tub, to lift it out of the tub.
Remove the 7/16-inch bearing, which is the spin bearing, in the middle of the drive shaft at the bottom of the spin basket within the tub, using an adjustable wrench.
Inspect the bearing for any damage, such as cracks or rust, to determine if it needs to be replaced.
Place the spin bearing or its replacement back onto the drive shaft of the spin basket, then place the agitator back into the tub. Turn the agitator clockwise to lock it into position.
Place the tub cover back on, and press down on it. Reconnect the dampening straps and reinsert the 5/16-inch hex head screws.
Slide the top panel back onto the washer, and push it in so that it snaps into place. Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet.
