Always verify the portable washer has power if the water isn't moving through the system properly. If you hear the motor making noise and the washer is otherwise running, power isn't the problem. If the washer's power cable came loose or the breaker shut-off, however, the washer won't work until the power is restored. Check the outlet the washer is plugged into to ensure it has proper power and verify all your breakers are turned on. Look for power lights on the washer as well to see if it is getting electricity.
The water can't flow in or out of the system if it is obstructed. Portable washers often get connected directly to a sink while in use so ensure the connection is secure and that the water source is turned on. Examine the hoses themselves. A kinked hose limits the amount of water that can go in or out at any given time. Straightening them should correct the problem. If the hose is leaking, it also limits proper water flow and contributes to washer problems.
Hard water causes mineral deposits to build up over time and these deposits can prevent the washer from properly dispensing or discharging if they are severe enough. In addition, objects from clothing pockets, such as loose change, may have lodged in the washer and are preventing proper function. A thorough cleaning of the washer helps discover and correct these issues. The washer should be washed regularly for standard maintenance anyway but this is especially true when it malfunctions. Detergents also coagulate sometimes and could block the drains and hoses, preventing proper water flow.
Portable washers cannot handle the same sized loads as traditional washers and if you overfill the basin, the washer won't be able to properly clean everything. Excessive water buildup is common in this circumstance and it is challenging for the washer to discharge all of it. Excessive filling of the washer may prevent water from entering the washer as well because the pump has to work extra hard to get water through all the fabric that is packed against the sides of the washer. Try running the washer with nothing in it to see how the water flow is.
