How to Fix a Back Suspension Rod on a GE WHDSR315DAWW Washer

The suspension rods on a GE WHDSR315DAWW washing machine stabilize the washtub. The rods are instrumental in keeping the washing machine from literally bouncing across the floor during the wash and spin cycles. A broken suspension rod is evident when you open the washing machine and the tub appears to be sitting lopsided. Replacing a suspension rod in the back of the washer is not difficult, but as with most parts that are in sets, you should replace all of them at one time so that they wear evenly.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the washing machine away from the wall and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Release the retaining clips holding the front panel of the washer to the frame by inserting a putty knife into the seam between the top and front panel and pushing in on them. Set the front panel aside.

Lift the lid of the washer and reach under between the washtub and the top with a flat-tip screwdriver to release the lid switch. Remove the screws securing the top to the frame using a nut driver. Lift the top away from the washing machine frame and set it aside.

    • 3

Lift up on the washtub from the bottom and release the bottom of the suspension rods from the tub on the front and back. Push the rods up and remove the plastic retaining ring from the frame at the top. Lower the suspension rod back down and out of the washing machine. Repeat the process until all rods are out.

Place the new suspension rod into the GE washer and push it up through the opening in the top of the frame. Insert the plastic retaining ring and lower the rod back down so that the top is resting on the retainer. Lift up on the washtub and slip the bottom of the suspension rod into the bracket to secure. Repeat the process until all rods are in the washing machine.

Place the top on the washer and install the retaining screws using a nut driver. Plug the door switch in and push it into place in the opening, making sure it snaps into place. Place the front panel on the washer and push in at the top corners to lock the retaining clips. Plug the power cord into the electrical outlet and push the washer against the wall.
