How to Replace the Inner Tub on a Maytag Front Loader

If the tub within your Maytag front-loader washer doesn't turn properly during a spin cycle then you may have a broken tub. A crack in the outer or inner tub can cause the tub to spin incorrectly, and you can remove both of the tubs at any time to inspect them for damage. If you find that the inner tub is broken, you can replace it with a new inner tub part, which you can order from Maytag or from an online retailer.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Move your Maytag front-loader washer away from the wall, and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Press in on the clips located inside the crevice between the front and top panels using a putty knife.

    • 3

Lift up the top panel all the way back so that it rests on its hinges. Push down on the washer tub from the top of the unit, then unsnap the top retaining clip.

    • 4

Unsnap all of the plastic retaining clips holding the outer and inner tubs together.

    • 5

Remove the screws on the top of the front panel using a Phillips screwdriver, then disconnect the wire to the door switch, located on the top right corner of the front panel.

    • 6

Lift up and remove the front panel along with the door, and you will then have full access to the washer tub.

    • 7

Disconnect the bolt at the bottom of the tub using a socket wrench, then pull out the entire outer tub.

    • 8

Turn the inner tub counterclockwise, and pull out the tub. Inspect the inner tub for any damage, such as cracks, and replace the part, if necessary.

    • 9

Slide in the new inner tub part, and turn it clockwise to lock it into place. Insert the outer tub, and reinsert the bolt into the middle of the tub.

    • 10

Place the front panel back on, and reconnect the wire to the door switch at the top of the panel. Reinsert the screws into the top of the front panel.

    • 11

Reconnect all of the retaining clips to the tub, and lower the top panel back down. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
