How to Replace a Washer Suspension Rod

The main component of your washing machine, the tub, is held up by suspension rods that keep it from falling to the bottom of the unit. When your tub leans to one side or isn’t level, it’s a sign something is wrong with your rods. Replacing the rods can vary depending on the model and style of the washer, but generally, you just thread each new rod through the opening on the top and attach it to the tub.

Turn off your washer and unplug it from the power source. Remove the front panel of the washer. Remove the main top of the washer.

Unclip the suspension rod from its holder on the drum at the bottom of the rod. Pull the rod up through the whole in the top of the unit with one hand and pull the top plastic support out of the way. Lift the entire rod up through the opening.

Lower the new rod into the hole and attach the bottom to the tub’s clip. Hold the rod up with one hand and slide the top plastic support in place. Slide the rod in the hole the rest of the way and rest it on the top plastic support.
