How to Repair the Metal Rattle in the Frigidaire Affinity

The sound of metal rattling in your Frigidaire dryer is due either to coins inside the baffle or looseness of the baffle. The baffle is the “V” shape paddle inside the dryer drum. Loose change sometimes makes its way between the baffle and the drum and ends up trapped inside the baffle. The screws securing the baffle might also work loose, making the baffle loose inside the drum. Eliminating the metal rattle in a Frigidaire Affinity dryer requires some disassembly of the dryer cabinet.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Frigidaire Affinity power cord from the dryer outlet. Grab both sides of the dryer and pull it 2 feet away from the wall.

    • 2

Remove the four screws securing the back flange of the top panel to the rear of the dryer using a nut driver. Lift the rear of the top panel slightly and slide it back until it releases from the control console. Set the top panel out of the way.

    • 3

Go to the front of the Affinity and open the dryer door. Rotate the dryer drum with your hand until the baffle is at the top of the drum.

    • 4

Look inside the top of the dryer cabinet and locate the two screws on top of the drum securing the baffle. Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Reach inside the drum and grab the middle of the baffle. Pull the baffle toward the front of the dryer. This disconnects the tabs from the drum and releases the baffle.

    • 5

Pull the baffle out of the Affinity dryer drum. Remove any coins or other objects from the inside of the baffle. Inspect the baffle for bends and straighten them with a pair of needle-nose pliers.

    • 6

Insert the baffle into the dryer with the tabs pointing to the rear of the unit. Place the tabs of the baffle against the inside top of the drum in front of the slotted holes. Push the baffle toward the rear of the drum, sliding the tabs through the slotted holes.

    • 7

Secure the baffle from the outside top of the drum with the retaining screws. Slide the top cover onto the dryer until the front of the cover locks under the lip of the control panel. Secure the rear flange to the back of the dryer with the securing screws.

Plug the power cord into the dryer outlet. Slide the dryer back toward the rear wall in its normal working position.
