How to Add a Washing Machine Drain to a House

To use your washing machine, you must have a drain hose extension connected to both the appliance and the drainpipe. If you have a leaking drain hose, then you need to replace the part. A new drain hose can be manually added to the drainpipe using minimal tools. Also, a new drain hose can be purchased from the manufacturer for your washing machine or any online retailer.

Instructions

    • 1

Move your washing machine away from the wall, and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Turn off the hot and cold water supply valves, which lead to valves behind the washer unit on the wall of your home.

    • 3

Locate the drain hose connected to your wall's drainpipe next to the hot and cold water supply valves.

    • 4

Disconnect the clamp connecting the hose to the drainpipe, using an adjustable wrench, then pull the hose off the drainpipe.

    • 5

Disconnect the other end of the drain hose from the rear bottom side of your washing machine. On most units you should be able to disconnect the hose with your hand but you also may need to remove a metal clamp.

    • 6

Connect one end of the new drain hose to the back of your washing machine, then tighten the other end of the drain hose to the drainpipe in your wall.

    • 7

Turn the hot and cold water supply valves back on, and plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
