Broken Cycle Switch on a GE Heavy-Duty Washer Model G1360

The GE G1360 heavy-duty washing machine has a cycle switch that allows you to choose from a variety of wash cycle options. Over time, the switch may malfunction, rendering the washer inoperable, or you may only be able to use one setting until you repair it. By using your washer's model number, you can purchase a replacement switch from GE or an appliance repair store, and install the switch yourself. The installation should only take a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the GE G1360 washing machine from the electrical outlet.

    • 2

Unscrew the four screws on the top of the control panel, using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 3

Pull the knobs off the control panel by grasping them and pulling forward.

    • 4

Lift the control panel cover off.

    • 5

Locate the cycle switch and note how the wires are connected.

    • 6

Unclip the wire connection assembly for that switch. You may be able to remove the clips by hand, or you may need needle-nose pliers.

    • 7

Unscrew the switch from the control board.

    • 8

Line the new switch up on the control panel, where the old switch was, then screw it into place.

    • 9

Reconnect the wires from the control panel into the switch as they were before, then push down on the clips to close them. The clips close around the end of the wires to keep them connected to the switch.

    • 10

Replace the control cover panel and screw it back into place.

    • 11

Slide the knobs back onto the switches and push them into place.

    • 12

Plug the power cord back into the outlet.
