Excessive Vibration in the LG WT5001CW

The LG model WT5001CW is a high-efficiency top-loading washing machine. This washer has an large capacity and innovative features, like the WaveForce deep cleaning technology. Despite this, the unit is not immune to some of the same noise problems that other washers encounter. When your unit is vibrating excessively, you can take measures into your own hands and troubleshoot the problem.
  1. Overloaded

    • If you have put too much laundry in the washer, it can use some loud vibration and knocking noises. This can happen when the laundry gets tangled together and bangs on the sides of the washer during the cycle. Removing some items from the washer will stop the vibrating noise. In the future, washing smaller loads of laundry will prevent it from happening.

    Unevenly Distributed

    • When you put the laundry in the washing machine, you should evenly distribute it around the agitator. If you do not, it can pile up on one side. When this happens, the result is vibration noise from the unevenly distributed laundry. This can also occur during the cycle when you are washing heavy items that get unevenly distributed. Stop the vibration noise by lifting the washer lid and redistributing the items in the laundry.

    Floor Problem

    • Your LG washer should be resting on a sturdy, solid floor surface. If not, it can result in vibration noises when the washer is on. If the floor flexes or moves in any way, as it would on a carpeted floor, the flooring is not rigid enough for the washer. You can move the washing machine to a more solid floor, such as concrete, or make the floor sturdier by putting a piece of plywood under the washer and dryer. You will have to measure your floor surface to determine what size you need.

    Leveling Feet Uneven

    • All four of the leveling feet on the washer should be touching the floor at the same time. If you can push on the washer when it is off and it rocks back and forth, then it is not level and will vibrate when in use. The feet can be adjusted with pliers or a wrench. All you have to do is loosen the nuts on the feet you want to adjust, let the feet out or in, and then tighten the nuts back up on the feet.
