A Whirlpool Duet Is Leaking Into the Drum

The Whirlpool Duet receives water from the inlet hoses connected to the back of the washer and the water faucets for even distribution of hot and cold water during use. A water leak that makes its way into your front-loading washer's drum is caused by a damaged connection, which reduces the washer's ability to efficiently fill the washer with the correct amount of water while in operation.
  1. Cause

    • A cracked inlet hose connected to the back of the washer reduces the washer's efficiency during the cleaning cycle, as water travels through the inlet hose and normally fills the washer with the appropriate water amount based on your configured cycle settings. The inlet hose has a sensor that determines when to cease water distribution, and it malfunctions when the inlet hose is overtightened on the back of the machine.

    Prevention

    • Routine cleaning of the inlet hose ensures the washer receives the proper amount of water. Unscrew the inlet hose from the back of the washer and scrub the inlet hose filter with a cleaning brush to remove hard water deposits. The recommended frequency for cleaning the inlet hose depends on the amount of minerals in your water supply, which create a white buildup on the filter.

    Replacement

    • A cracked connection at the end of the hose requires a complete replacement of the inlet hose. You can order a replacement hose from Whirlpool customer service. The Whirlpool customer service number is 800-253-1301 for U.S. residents or 800-807-6777 for Canadian residents.

    Advanced Troubleshooting

    • A leak inside of the washer may require extensive repair and cannot repaired without the assistance of an authorized Whirlpool service mechanic. The Whirlpool mechanic can properly examine the washer's exterior connections and interior components and provide a repair estimate for the washer.
