How to Replace a Water Pump in a Stackable Kenmore

If you find water standing in your Kenmore stackable washer when the cycle is complete, the pump is not working properly. The pump is located inside the cabinet of the washing machine on the left side (when facing the machine), which means you have to remove the lower front panel to make the repair. The procedure is not difficult and in most cases you can complete the repair in an hour or less. Do it yourself and avoid calling in a high-priced repair technician.

Instructions

Unplug the Kenmore washer from the electrical outlet. Raise the front of the washing machine and slide a wooden block under it. Remove the screws from the bottom of the lower front panel using a Phillips screwdriver.

Pull down and out on the lower front panel to pull it away from the washing machine frame. Locate the pump on the left side of the washer toward the rear. Release the tab on the wire shield and push it back. Unplug the wires from the posts on the pump.

Release the hose clamps on the pump hoses using a pair of channel-lock pliers. Clean up water spillage from the hoses using old rags. Remove the pump retaining screws from the base of the washer using a Phillips screwdriver.

Pull the pump out of the appliance and discard it. Put the new pump in place and tighten the retaining screws using the Phillips screwdriver. Connect the hoses to the pump and secure the clamps using a pair of channel-lock pliers.
