Front Opening Dryer Vent Removal

Dryer vents allow moisture, hot air and lint to escape the confines of your dryer drum, so that wet clothes can dry properly. Without an outside vent, your dryer would turn and turn, and make your clothing nice and warm, but never dry. Front loading dryers have vents which exit the machine at the rear, and that lead to an outside vent hatch where hot air is released. The process of removing your front opening dryer vent requires only a few basic tools and a little know-how.

Unplug your electric dryer. Locate the electrical cord running outward from the rear of your dryer. Follow the cord to the electrical outlet and remove the plug. By starting at the rear of your machine and following the entire length of the cord, you eliminate the chance of mixing up different wires, and mistakenly removing the wrong plug.

Find an assistant, and together, gently slide the dryer away from its place against your laundry room wall. It is important to move slowly and cautiously so that the gas line which leads to your dryer remains firmly attached and undamaged. When there is enough room behind the dryer for you to maneuver into position between the rear of the machine and the wall, then do so.

Locate the dryer exhaust vent at the bottom of the dryer's rear panel. The vent will be a silver or white colored flexible tube, measuring about 4 inches in diameter. Locate the clamp which holds the vent onto your dryer exhaust fitting. The clamp will be tightened around the neck of the vent tubing, where it meets the dryer.

Use your screwdriver or ratchet set to turn the clamp screw or bolt in a counterclockwise direction. Slide the clamp away from the lip of the vent tube. Using both hands, twist the the vent tube from side to side while pulling gently. The tube should slide off with modest effort.
