How to Adjust a Drive Lug on a Maytag

Maytag washing machines have a drive pulley lug and a pulley lug that operate the spin cycle and the agitator. If you notice your washing machine is spinning and the agitator is operating at the same time, the drive pulley lug needs adjustment. Adjusting the lugs only takes a few minutes and accessing the area is not an obstacle.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Maytag washing machine from its power supply and then move the washing machine forward away from the wall.

    • 2

Unscrew the washing machine’s lower back panel using a Phillips screwdriver. Removing the lower back panel exposes the drive pulley lug.

    • 3

Twist the drive pulley lug clockwise, while it is on the shaft until there is no play left in the band. Use your finger to twist it. The drive lug is the larger of the drive pulley lug and pulley lug.

    • 4

Place your finger on the pulley lug to keep it still, and then measure the distance between the pulley lug and the drive pulley lug. The measurement should read three-eighths inch when all of the play is removed.

    • 5

Twisting the pulley lug counterclockwise until it touches the drive pulley lug ensures it moves freely. The drive pulley lug and the pulley lug do not need to remain touching, but this ensures they still rotate properly.`
