How to Get Into a Washing Machine When the Catch Is Broken

Front-loading washing machines have a set of latches to keep their doors closed during the washing operation. They keep the water and soap sealed inside while allowing you to view the process through the front window. You won't be able to pull open the door in the normal manner if the latch gets jammed or broken. Think outside the box to gain access to your clothes if your door catch is broken.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washing machine from the wall. Pull the machine toward the center of the room to give you easier access.

    • 2

Tilt the washing machine sideways to a 45 degree angle. Do this by having a friend pull down on the top on one side, lifting up the bottom on the other side.

    • 3

Reach your hand up inside the washer underneath the door latch. Feel around until you find the door interlock, which is a plastic locking piece that slides back and forth. Push on the interlock to release the lock.

    • 4

Feel right by the interlock to find the actual door latch. This will be situated up against the door. Push on the latch to release the door. The washing machine door will pop open.
