How to Fix the Problem With a Front Loading Washing Machine That Doesn't Power Up

A front loading washer can lose power for a number of reasons, including power outages from thunderstorms, a tripped breaker or something as simple as an open door. With basic maintenance and a few adjustments, you can restore power to the unit yourself, or, if the problem is serious, you might need to call a technician.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the washing machine gently away from the wall, if necessary, and unplug the power cord from the power outlet. This action resets the washer. Plug the power cord back in after 30 seconds.

    • 2

Check the circuit breaker for your washing machine. Cycle the breaker by turning it all the way off and then all the way back on.

    • 3

Close the door to the front loading washer completely, as the unit won’t run with an open door.

    • 4

Allow 30 minutes to pass for the front loading washer motor to cool down, if the unit stops in the middle of a cycle. After heavy use, the motor can become overheated. To prevent the motor from burning up, the system automatically shuts down and doesn’t turn back on until the motor has had time to cool off.
