LG Washer Rotor Leak

The rotor in a washing machine is responsible for cycling water into the washer. It is a key part of the washer, and if it breaks, the washer will no longer work. If you have noticed leaking from your LG washer and are worried about a problem in or near the rotor mechanism, call a professional for a closer look. Leaks can be caused by loose fittings and broken seals.
  1. Rotor Operation

    • The pump is a motor that creates the necessary spinning motion to provide the pressure forcing water into the washer drum. The rotor is the component that actually provides the force with durable vanes. A rotor can snap these vanes or come loose and stop working. When this happens, your washer stops working, but it is rare for a rotor to cause leaks by itself. More often, a leak is located nearby a rotor or comes through it after originating somewhere else.

    Seals and Cracks

    • If the rotor housing breaks or if the washer drum itself cracks, your LG washer will start leaking whenever it tries to begin a cycle. This could be caused by a broken rotor that damaged its casing or nearby pipes. Age, corrosion and impact can also be responsible for the cracks. These are serious problems that require replacing the pump or the drum to fix, making them some of the most expensive leak sources.

    Fill Hose Connections

    • The fill hose is how water is cycled from your plumbing into the drum of your washer, courtesy of the pressure created by the rotor. This hose is connected both to your primary water supply and to the washer valves. Over time these hoses may become loose, either at the tap or at the washer. LG suggests checking the hoses and tightening both connections to solve the problem.

    Clogged Drains

    • Another potential problem is a clogged drain pipe. If the drain that the washer uses to get rid of used water fills up with debris, water will not be able to exit properly. This creates pressure imbalances that may result in leaks through your rotor or other areas of the washer. Sometimes the washer simply fills up too full and overflows when it cannot get rid of this water.
