How to Repair an Amana Dryer Model LGA30AW

Amana gas-powered clothes dryers suffer from some of the same issues that most clothes dryers from major brands encounter. Amana dryers rely on a gas-powered flame to create the heat necessary to dry clothes, and they have an electric motor to turn over the clothes in the dryer. As with most home appliances, many of the issues which arise with an Amana model LGA30AW can be isolated and repaired after a few checks and with some simple actions.

Reset your home's circuit breakers, or replace your home's fuses, if the machine fails to work altogether. A failure of electrical power will cause the machine to turn off and fail to start. Locate your home's fuse or circuit breaker box, and return everything in it to operational status. Try using the clothes dryer again.

    • 2

Inspect the vent hose on the Amana dryer if the machine does not heat sufficiently to dry clothes. Carefully move the dryer away from the wall so that you can access the vent hose. Remove the hose from the rear of the dryer by grabbing it in both hands and shifting it from side to side while pulling it. Inspect the interior of the removed hose and the hole at the rear of the machine for an accumulation of lint and/or other debris. Remove the lint and/or debris, and replace the hose.

    • 3

Examine the gas line shutoff valve if the dryer fails to heat. A lack of fuel to burn can cause the dryer's heat function to stop working while all other parts remain operational. If the valve is in the "off" position, return it to the "on" position, and test the dryer.

    • 4

Grasp the lower panel at the bottom edge of the front of the dryer if the appliance still does not heat. Pull off the panel to gain access to the ignitor inside. Locate the air shutter, which is a small, metal plate that sits over the gas flame that heats the dryer. Turn on the dryer, and allow it to run for a few moments. Use a screwdriver to loosen the set screw on the air shutter, and remove it.

Check the color of the flame. If the flame is not blue, then an air intake adjustment is required. Move the air shutter open until the flame burns properly, and then tighten the set screw to lock it in place. Reinstall the bottom panel, and test the dryer.
