How to Repair a Hole on a GE Washing Machine Tub

GE has been one of the leading manufacturers of appliances since 1907, and throughout the past century, GE has continually developed and released new products for home cooking and cleaning. GE has a wide array of washing machines ranging from economical to state-of-the-art steam washers. While these appliances are designed to last, over time the actual washing drum may become damaged. If you’ve noticed a hole in your GE washer tub, you do not have to replace the entire tub as you can fill in the hole with a specialized product.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the hole in the GE washer tub. Because the interior of the washing machine can be dark, use a flashlight to determine the location of the hole.

    • 2

Purchase a polymer composite sheet and waterproof epoxy-based adhesive. Your local home improvement store will have the aforementioned items. The polymer composite sheet acts as a waterproof barrier to close the hole while the epoxy-based adhesive ensures the polymer sheet does not loosen or break.

    • 3

Mix 1 tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap and 1 cup of water together. With a sponge, clean the area around the hole. This ensures the adhesive and polymer composite sheet have a clean surface to stick onto. Allow the water/soap mixture to dry before continuing to the next step.

    • 4

Cut the polymer composite sheet to an appropriate size. The polymer sheet should cover at least two inches past the hole in every direction.

    • 5

Apply the epoxy adhesive directly on the GE washer tub around the hole. Only apply the adhesive where the polymer composite sheet will rest.

    • 6

Place the polymer composite sheet over the adhesive and firmly press down for 30 seconds. Allow the newly applied polymer sheet to rest for at least 24-hours before washing a load of laundry.
