How to Install a Washer Drain Hose on a GE Profile Tl

Household washing machines take in clean water from your water supply system through a feed hose. There is one hose for hot and another for cold. The machine then fills with clean water and performs a wash cycle. After the cycle has ended, the dirty water is pumped back out of the machine and into your sewer system through a drain hose. The process of installing a new drain hose onto your GE Profile TI washing machine requires the same technique and equipment as most comparable machines.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Hose clamp
  • Drain hose
  • Ratchet set
  • Razor knife

Instructions

    • 1

Open the back panel of your GE Profile washing machine. The back panel is held on by a series of screws. Locate each screw head along the edge of the back panel and use your screwdriver to loosen and remove them. Remove the panel from its seat on the rear of the machine by lifting it upward and outward.

    • 2

Slide a new hose clamp over one end of your new drain hose. The clamp should be loose enough to allow the hose to slide over the drain nozzle without issue.

    • 3

Locate the drain hose nozzle on the rear-facing side of the water pump at the bottom of the open compartment. The drain hose nozzle is a plastic or metal nipple that extends the inner plumbing of the pump so that an external drain hose may be easily attached. Slip your hose clamp over one end of the hose. The clamp should be loose so that the hose can easily slide into place over the drain hose nozzle.

    • 4

Slip one end of your new drain hose over the drain nozzle by applying firm pressure, and twisting the hose from side to side. The hose should slide over the nozzle, and over two sets of ridges that serve as a seat for the clamp you placed onto the hose in step 2.

    • 5

Slide the open clamp into its proper position within the two sets of ridges. Use your screwdriver or ratchet set to tighten the clamp firmly. When tightened, the clamp will constrict to a size smaller than the two ridges to either side. This will prevent the drain hose from loosening or falling away during normal use.

    • 6

Lift the loose end of your drain hose up and into the standing drain pipe extending upward from your laundry room floor. Bend and place the end of your drain hose into the drain pipe, so that no more than 7 inches of the hose are located inside the pipe. There must be sufficient air space for drainage to occur. If there is excess hose, use your razor knife to cut it away.

Lay the slack in your drain hose so that there are no obstructions or kinks, and so that the flow of water is unimpeded. Use a cable tie to hold the drain hose in position over the drain pipe. Tie the hose to the nearest water line for support.
