How to Remove Coins From the Drain Pump of a Top Load Whirlpool Cabrio Washer

Coins in your drainage pump can stop your washer from draining properly and cause it to stop in the middle of a cycle. Although it's difficult to tell if coins have become trapped in your pump, your machine stopping when it reaches a drainage point could be a sign that your pump is being obstructed. Fortunately, if you own a top-loading Whirlpool Cabrio washer, checking your drainage system is a relatively straightforward process.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect your washer from its power source and turn off its water supply.

    • 2

Unscrew the water inlet pipes from the back of your machine with a wrench. Some residual water may be expelled during the process, so you may want to place some old towels on the floor around the back of your machine.

    • 3

Remove the drainage pipe from your drainage system.

    • 4

Secure the lid of your washer with duct tape and lower the front of it onto a towel so the back of the machine is facing up. You may want to ask someone to help you since the washer is heavy.

    • 5

Unscrew the panel that covers the back of your washer.

    • 6

Loosen the clamp that secures the pump's inlet hose to the tub and pull the hose away.

    • 7

Remove the wire protector and detach the pump's wire connector from the body of your washer.

    • 8

Unscrew the pump's mounting screws and loosen the clamp that secures the drain hose. You can then pull the pump away from the body of your machine.

    • 9

Unscrew the top section of the pump and remove any coins.

    • 10

Screw the pump back together. Then connect the drainage hose back to the pump's outlet and secure the clamp.

    • 11

Reconnect the inlet hose and its clamp, secure the pump with the mounting screws and then reinsert the wire connector and replace the wire cover.

    • 12

Replace the cover at the back of your washer, move it back into position. Reconnect the water supply, drainage pipe and power supply.
