How to Test an AP3094138 Dryer Ignitor

The AP3094138 dryer ignitor is a part made by Whirlpool. It is compatible with many types of dryers, including those made by Whirlpool, Maytag and Kenmore. The ignitor lights the natural gas or liquid propane in your dryer to create heat for the unit. If your dryer isn’t heating, the first place to check is the AP3094138 ignitor.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the front panel of your dryer using a screwdriver to view the burner assembly. Check your model’s service manual for specific instructions on accessing the burner assembly.

    • 2

Turn the dryer on a high temperature setting, and observe the burner assembly to see if the AP3094138 glows. A glowing ignitor bar indicates it’s working.

    • 3

Turn off the dryer, and then disconnect it from its power supply. Disconnect the wire connectors from the AP3094138 using needlenose pliers if necessary.

Set your multitester to X1. Touch one probe to each of the terminals on the AP3094138 to get an amperage reading. The reading should be anywhere from 50 to 600 ohms if the ignitor is working, while a zero or infinity reading indicates a broken ignitor.
