How to Know if Your Maytag Dryer Has a Clutch Timer

Dryers utilize various types of timers to regulate the length of time the machine is running. Maytag dryers may use either clutch timers or electronic timers. A clutch timer is a mechanical timer with small gears inside of a plastic casing controlled by turning a knob. If you want to confirm your Maytag dryer control knobs are connected to clutch timers, you can do so with a visual inspection of components.

Unscrew the screws holding the control panel cover in place. Depending on your make and model, the screws may be on the top, back or front of the panel.

    • 3

Grasp the timer control knob and pull it straight off.
