How to Remove a Rusted Kenmore Pump Number 3363394

Kenmore pump number 3363394 is the drainage element that removes water from a washing machine drum. If the tub on the washer fails to empty, your problem may be a faulty pump. Washer pumps are notorious for becoming frozen, according to repair website Appliance Aid. This means the connecting stubs rust onto the machine's motor. Once this happens, removal takes a bit of elbow grease and patience.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washing machine from the electrical outlet. Pull the machine away from the wall so you have room to work.

    • 2

Undo the screws on the sides of the washer machine console. The console is the top panel the holds the operating switches. Once the screws are off, flip the panel back so it hangs behind the machine.

    • 3

Disconnect the wire harness under the panel. Unhook the two ends by squeezing the harness in the middle and pulling them apart.

    • 4

Unhook off the clips on the side of the cabinet near where the console sat. Slide a screwdriver into the clip and apply pressure while pulling on that side of the cabinet.

    • 5

Push off the clips holding the pump in place once you locate it. The pump sits directly under the tub. It has a circular top, flat bottom and two tubes protruding from the end. Remove the clips by applying pressure with your thumbs while pushing them outward.

Place a large, flathead screwdriver over the rusted shaft and hammer it until it comes free of the motor. Once you clear off the rust, grab the pump with both hands and pull it towards you.
