Minimum Installation Depth for a Samsung Dryer

Before purchasing a Samsung dryer, measure the area where you intend to install the dryer. The depth of the space needed is larger than the depth of the dryer, as you must accommodate for the dryer's exhaust vent. Failing to account for the vent can lead to damage to your dryer or, worse, a fire.
  1. Vent Space

    • The most important factor in the installation of your dryer is ensuring that the dryer vent is not pinched or obstructed. If the air cannot easily flow through the vent and out of your house, heat will build up in the dryer. The buildup of heat will cause the dryer's thermal fuse to trip, which cuts the power to the heating element. When the thermal fuse trips, it must be replaced, as it cannot be reset. Further, excessive heat may ignite the dryer lint, causing a fire.

    Dryer Duct

    • When choosing a duct, be sure to choose a flexible metal duct. The duct should be 4 inches in diameter and connected using duct tape. When the duct is installed, attempt to keep the duct straight and as short as possible.

    Closet Installation

    • When installing the dryer in a closet, ensure that the dryer has two air sources, which often come in the form of louvered doors. These doors allow air to flow into the dryer closet even when the door is closed, promoting proper ventilation. Further, no other fuel-burning appliance should be installed in the same closet as the dryer.

    Spacial Requirements

    • To ensure proper ventilation and airflow, the dryer's final installation location should meet the following measurements at a bare minimum. The dryer requires a minimum clearance of 2 inches in the front, 17 inches on the top and 2.375 inches on the back. To determine the required depth, measure the depth of the dryer itself, and then add 2.375 inches to the number, keeping in mind that this is the minimum distance required.
