My Whirlpool Thin Twin Leaks on Cycle

Designed for consumer use, the Whirlpool Thin Twin is a stacked compact washer and dryer unit. The washer is on the bottom of the unit with the dryer on top. This smaller unit has a 1.5 cubic foot capacity, five wash cycles, five dry cycles and three temperature settings. When you encounter a leak from the washer part of the unit, you can attempt to troubleshoot this problem instead of contacting Whirlpool for assistance.
  1. Fill Hose

    • Water enters your washer from fill hoses, which are connected to the washer via the cold and hot wall faucets. If these hoses are loose or damaged, it will result in a leak during the cycle. Feel the connections to determine if they are loose. If so, use a wrench or pair of pliers to tighten them. If there is a crack or hole in the hoses, you need to replace them. The faucets will need to be turned off before you take off the bad hoses. Replacements can be purchased at your local home improvement store.

    Drain Hose

    • Look at the back of the washer to check the drain hose connection. It should be secured to the washer as well as the standpipe or sink, depending on which you are using. This is done with the drain hook so that it stays in place. If your drain hook is missing, you can use waterproof tape to secure the hose in place. For the connection to the washer, the hose should push securely into the drain hole on the washer. Give it a firm push if it appears to be loose.

    Drain Clog

    • Inspect your floor drain or sink drain, depending on which one you are using. This is the drain used by the drain hose from the washer. If this drain has a clog, it can result in a leak when the washer is draining. Approximately 17 gallons of water per minute comes from the draining washer and if your drain cannot handle that you will have a leak. Household drain cleaner can be used to clear a clog, or you can call in a local plumber for assistance.

    Splashing Off Load

    • If the leak appears to be splashing off your load of laundry, your tub may not be centered. Look in the washer to determine if the tub is sitting toward one side. If so, move it with your hands to reposition it. If not, the splashing may be due to an unevenly distributed load of laundry. Fix this by rearranging the items in your washer so that they are spread out around the tub. It is also important not to overload the washer, which can result in the splashing leak.
