Rust occurs when moisture and oxygen combine with metal and create hydrated ferric oxide on a metal surface. This process can is accelerated if salt if added, so rust occurs more often in areas near the ocean that have salty air. The metal parts of a Whirlpool Duet dryer are sealed to prevent rust. But rust can occur if the sealant becomes scratched, cracked or damaged.
You can prevent rust marks on your Whirlpool Duet dryer by keeping it in a dry place. Remember to clean it with a clean, damp cloth and immediately fix any scratches that might occur with touch-up paint. You can also apply a coat of automobile wax to the outside of your dryer to protect it from scratches.
Wipe the stained area with a cloth dipped in white vinegar. Then dampen a pumice stone with warm water. Rub the rust stain gently, stopping periodically to wipe the stain with a damp cloth and check your progress. Continue rubbing the mark until it disappears.
Often, rust from the dryer can transfer onto clothes in the dryer. If your dryer has caused rust stains on your clothing, you can remove the stains with lemon juice and salt. Sprinkle the stain with salt, then squeeze lemon juice over it and allow the stain to dry in the sun. Or, use a commercially available rust remover, but use caution if it contains hydrofluoric acid as it can burn your skin.
