How to Repair an Asko Dryer

Everyone knows getting clothes clean is only half the task; a working dryer is a must during the fall, winter and spring for many busy homes. Repairing your Asko-brand dryer when you are aren't sure of the problem involves inspecting the appliance for common faults. In many cases the issue can be resolved by correcting minor electrical or plumbing faults. Many repairs require no tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the dryer's power supply if it is unresponsive. The power cord could have worked loose in the outlet or the device protecting the circuit could have been tripped. Reset the breakers or replace the fuses – some dryers use a pair of fuses or breakers to protect the appliance from electrical surges. If one of the pair is tripped, the dryer's controls might work while the motor fails to turn.

    • 2

Wait a few minutes if the dryer has just turned off; the thermal switch inside the appliance automatically kills the power if the internal temperature rises dangerously high. Re-start the cycle after half an hour of cool-down time. Call a technician if the dryer repeatedly overheats and turns off.

Clean the lint filter if you haven't done so at the beginning of the cycle. Used to catch dust removed from clothes, the lint filter becomes blocked if it isn't cleaned at the start or end of each cycle, causing the unit to overheat. To clean the lint filter, slide it out of its slot on the inside of the door and scrape the dust into the garbage. Replace the filter and try the dryer again. Dirty filters are often a cause of lengthy drying times.

Clean out the condenser if your Asko dryer is not hooked up to an exhaust vent. The condenser turns evaporated moisture removed from the clothes into a liquid. To clean, unplug the appliance and pull the front plate, located below the door, forward. Turn the pair of knobs counterclockwise and pull out the condenser coils. Rinse this part of the dryer in the shower with cold water to clear off any debris. Allow the coils to dry before pushing them back in position and clipping the front plate back in place.

Check the display for an error code. If the display shows "F1" the condenser drain line at the back of the dryer could be blocked. Unscrew the hose running from the back of the appliance to the stand pipe and check inside for signs of a blockage. Make sure the hose is inserted more than 5 inches into the standpipe to allow water to flow correctly. Try the cycle again once you have corrected the drain pipe issues.
