Unplug the Whirlpool dryer power cord from the dryer power outlet. Pull the dryer 2-feet away from the back wall.
Open the lint filter door on the top of the dryer. Remove the two screws on the front lip pf the lint filter opening with a Phillips screwdriver. Once the screws are out of the dryer, lift the lint filter out of the filter duct. Close the lint filter door.
Slide a 2-inch putty knife 3 inches from the right corner between the front and top panels. Move the putty knife left to right until you feel an obstruction. Slip the putty knife over the obstruction while lifting the corner of the top panel. The obstruction is a spring clip securing the top panel. Once you disengage the right corner, move the putty knife toward the left corner and release the spring clip. Raise the front of the Whirlpool dryer top toward the back wall.
Open the dryer door to release the door switch plunger. Look inside the top of the dryer cabinet and find the door switch on the right side of the door opening. Pull the white wire connector apart with your fingers.
Find the securing screws on the outside of the door opening. Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Reach inside the cabinet and pull the door switch out of the unit.
Position the new dryer door switch inside the cabinet and align the switch mounting holes with the mounting holes in the cabinet. Secure the door switch with the securing screws. Push the white connector of the door switch with the dryer wire connector.
Lower the top panel of the dryer and push down on the front edge until the spring clips engage. Insert the lint filter and install the two securing screws into the front lip of the lint filter opening. Plug the power cord into the outlet and push the dryer back into position.
