Bypassing ATC on Maytag Washing Machines

ATC, or automatic temperature control, is a feature of several Maytag washing machines that adjusts the temperature of incoming cold and hot water to produce the best cleaning results. The temperatures of the hot and cold water supplies tend to vary home to home and season to season. Bypassing the ATC feature causes the washer to use the normal water temperatures in your home. ATC is designed to save energy and produce good cleaning results, but you might find it isn't suited to your home's water supply.

Instructions

    • 1

Load clothes as you normally do into the washing machine. Set the "Water Level" dial to a position that matches the size of the load. Set the "Extra Rinse" dial to "On" or "Off" depending on the level of soiling and the type of fabrics.

    • 2

Turn the "Wash/Rinse Temp" dial to any one of the positions not marked "ATC." Choose from "Hot/Cold," "Warm/Cold" and "Cold/Cold" options.

    • 3

Turn the cycle selector dial to the appropriate position and choose whether you'd like the appliance to signal the end of the cycle using the "Cycle Signal" dial. Pull the cycle selector dial outward to begin the wash.
