How to Check the Lint in a Calypso Dryer

Whirlpool's Calypso Dryer features Sension drying technology. This smart dryer senses when clothes dry, then switches itself off to save energy. This product is no longer sold at retail stores, but homeowners still use these compact units because of its handy drying rack and multiple dryer settings. The National Fire Protection Association says that to avoid fire, dryer lint traps must be cleaned before and after use. Besides cleaning the lint trap, you should check the dryer's vent regularly. A quick, daily wipe of the dryer top will help reduce lint buildup, too.

Instructions

  1. Cleaning the Lint Trap

    • 1

Unplug the dryer from the wall before performing cleaning. Look on the right side of the top panel for a covered slot. Lift the panel, flipping it up. Grasp the lint trap and pull it straight out of the machine.

    • 2

Remove the lint buildup on the lint trap, using your hands, while standing near a garbage can. Attach the crevasse attachment to the vacuum cleaner. Turn on the vacuum cleaner, then vacuum the lint trap completely clean. Set the lint aside.

    • 3

Slide the crevasse attachment into the lint trap slot in the dryer. Suck away any debris that the lint trap left behind. Free up stuck-on lint with a dry bottle brush.

    • 4

Turn off the vacuum cleaner and replace the lint trap in the machine. Plug up your dryer and use it when ready.

    Check the Dryer Hose

    • 5

Look at the back of the dryer for a silver foil or white plastic hose tube. The tube will be wide and ridged. Trace the dryer tube to the outside vent.

    • 6

Lift the outdoor vent door and look inside the vent, using a flashlight. Verify that there are no obstructions in the vent. Remove any visible lint debris, using a soft mop head or a small broom.

    • 7

Close the vent door or return it to its previous position.
