How to Install a Boot Seal on an LG TROMM Washing Machine

LG TROMM washing machines are front-loading. When water fills the washer tub, the only thing keeping the water from leaking out the front door and onto the floor is the boot seal. A boot seal is a rubber gasket that sits between the washer tub and the front door, creating a water-tight connection. Water and soap may cause the seal to deteriorate over time, causing leaks. Replacement of the door gasket, when done yourself, is a cheap repair.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washing machine from the wall to prevent shock while working.

    • 2

Open the washer door. Slide a flat-head screwdriver behind the wire clamp attached to the boot seal. Pull the wire clamp off the unit.

    • 3

Pull the boot seal off the front panel and push it inside the washer to keep it out of the way.

    • 4

Press down the plastic tab on the wire leading to the washer door latch. Pull the wire out of the door latch connection.

    • 5

Open the small door at the bottom of the unit. Pull on the drainage tube to unhook it. Remove the filter housing screw at the bottom of the cavity. Pull the housing out of the washer. Remove the screw for the front panel behind it.

    • 6

Remove screws at the back of the unit holding the washer top in place. Slide the top back 1 inch and lift it off the unit.

    • 7

Pull on the detergent dispenser and press down the release tab. Remove the screw from the control panel sitting behind the dispenser cavity. Remove the screw from behind the control panel. Pull on the front of the panel, moving left to right, to remove it from the unit.

    • 8

Remove the screws from the top of the front panel. Pull up and out on the front panel to remove it.

    • 9

Grab the drain tube on the boot seal with a pair of pliers and pull it off the drain hose.

    • 10

Pull off the boot clamp from the seal using a flat-head screwdriver. Peel the old boot seal off.

    • 11

Align the new boot seal with the drain tube on the seal facing down. Reassemble the washing machine by reversing the take-apart instructions.
