How to Replace Rubber Bands in a GE Washer

Your GE washer door is sealed with the help of a "rubber band." This band is actually a large circular gasket that fits in the doorway of the washing machine. If your washer door isn't sealing properly, you likely have a bad rubber seal. Instead of spending a lot of cash hiring a repairman to fix the problem, you can do so yourself in a matter of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Power off your GE washer, and unplug the power cable.

    • 2

Open the washer door, and grip the metal ring inside the doorway, under the rubber band, with your pliers. Pull the metal ring out of the doorway.

    • 3

Reach into the doorway, and find the lock switch at the side of the rear of the doorway. Unplug the wiring harness that connects to the lock switch.

    • 4

Pull the washer away from the wall, and remove the screws on the rear of the washer's top panel with your Phillips screwdriver. Remove the top panel, and set it aside.

    • 5

Pull the dispenser tray out of the front of the washing machine, and remove the screws in the tray housing compartment.

    • 6

Remove the screws on the top of the washer control panel, and pop the clips securing the control panel to the front of the washer. Place the control panel on the top of the washer.

    • 7

Remove the screws on the corners of the front panel of the washer, and remove the panel. Set it aside.

    • 8

Peel the band out of the doorway, and set it aside.

    • 9

Fit a new band in the doorway, and replace the panels of the washer, as well as the metal ring.
