How to Replace the Blower Belt on a Whirlpool Cabrio

The Whirlpool Cabrio dryer has a blower wheel inside. The blower wheel spins when heat is created inside the unit to blow hot air into the dryer tub. The spin of the blower wheel is controlled by a belt that runs along the tub of the machine and the blower motor. A loud noise from the inside of the unit, such as squealing, a burning smell or a lack of heat are all indications that the blower belt needs to be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dryer from the wall.

    • 2

Lift up the lint screen of the dryer and remove the screw from inside. Depending on your Cabrio model, the lint filter is either at the top of the unit, near the control panel, or just inside the door well.

    • 3

Slide a putty knife between the top panel of the unit and the front panel to release the clips holding it in place. Lift up on the dryer top to remove it.

    • 4

Pull out on the bottom panel of the unit to remove it. Place a wooden block underneath the dryer drum to support it before removing the front panel. Remove the screws along the front panel and pull out to remove it.

    • 5

Take a picture of the belt orientation using a digital camera. This will help you remember how to replace it.

    • 6

Pull the old dryer belt off the tub. Pull the dryer belt out of the idler pulley and off the motor behind the blower. Replace the old belt with the new belt using the same routing orientation. Rotate the dryer drum a few times to make sure it is in place, then reassemble the unit.
