How to Replace the Seal on a Front-Loader Whirlpool Washing Machine

The boot seal on a front-load washer, such as a Whirlpool washer, seals the door of the unit, preventing water leakage. This is important, since the door on a front-load washer opens from the front of the unit, rather than the top. If the door on your Whirlpool front-load washer isn't closing properly, or is leaking, it could be the result of a bad seal. Even if you don't know much about home washers, you can replace the seal yourself.

    • 3

Remove the screws on the corners of the top panel of the washer and remove the top panel.

    • 4

Pull the plastic outer frame off of the front of the washer door.

    • 5

Slide the detergent dispenser drawer out of the front of the washer and remove it. Remove the screws in the dispenser drawer housing.

    • 6

Insert the tip of a flat-head screwdriver in the gap where the main control panel of the washer meets the body of the washer. Pop the internal tabs behind the control panel and remove the control panel.

Open the door and pull the metal ring inside the doorway out with a pair of pliers.

    • 8

Peel the rubber seal out of the door frame.

Lift up on the top corners of the front panel of the washer and pull the panel off. Set the panel aside. This will give you full access to the rubber boot seal.

Loosen the screw on the metal clamp around the seal. Remove the clamp.

    • 11

Peel the seal out of the doorway to remove it.
