How to Convert a Maytag Maxima Natural Gas Dryer to Propane

Like many gas appliances, Maytag Maxima dryers come ready-made to run on natural gas and not propane. However, with the installation of a simple conversion kit, your Maytag Maxima dryer can run on propane instead of natural gas. Propane moves at a higher pressure than natural gas, so the orifices inside the dryer’s burner need to be smaller for propane to ignite properly. The liquid petroleum (LP) conversion kit comes with smaller burner orifices for that reason.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dryer, and remove it from the gas line.

    • 2

Lift the lower panel away from the Maytag Maxima dryer. Loosen the screws at the bottom of the burner assembly holding it in place. Unscrew the nut connecting the assembly to the gas line with the wrench.

    • 3

Locate the stock jets on the burner, the little orifices that release the gas. Screw the propane jets over the stock jets, and tighten them with the wrench.

    • 4

Open the brass vent cap on the burner and remove the spring. Turn the screw inside the vent cap a half turn clockwise. Place the spring back in the vent cap, and plug it with the pin that came with the kit. Replace the vent cap.

Screw the burner assembly back to the gas line, and screw it back into the dryer. Close the panel.
