How to Install the Spring on a Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Flap

Most models of Whirlpool refrigerators have an automatic icemaker and ice and water dispenser on the front of the freezer door. The ice and water dispenser allows you to fill a cup with ice and water without contaminating the refrigerator's ice supply with your hands. The ice dispenser has a door that opens to allow ice to be dispensed, then closes to keep the cold air inside the freezer. The door is spring-loaded, so if the spring becomes damaged or weak, the door may not properly close. In this instance, you must install a new spring.
