How to Install a Replacement Freezer Lock

Depending on the type of freezer lock and the reason for locking, you may eventually need to replace the lock. The locks can break, wear down or become ineffective. Replacement locks can be purchased to re-secure the appliance and prevent unwarranted access. A self-adhesive lock is beneficial for a number of reasons: it alleviates the need to drill and potentially damage the freezer, it is more secure than a plastic lock and the installation process is simple. It shouldn't take more than 10 to 15 minutes to re-secure the freezer.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all components of the previous freezer lock, if applicable.

    • 2

Clean the area where the lock will go using rubbing alcohol and cotton balls or a cotton cloth.

    • 3

Remove the backing from one of the self-adhesive pads. Carefully place the pad on the freezer lid/door where the previous lock component was. Press firmly and hold the adhesive pad in place in place for at least a minute to ensure a firm grip.

    • 4

Repeat the process with the remaining adhesive pad, on the side of the freezer. Press firmly and again hold the adhesive in place to ensure it sticks.

    • 5

Attach the padlock through the steel cables to lock the freezer.
