How to Install a Mud Dauber Screen on a Refrigerator Vent

The average recreational vehicle is too small to manage the heat generated by a refrigerator. To help circulate the hot air, RV refrigerators are connected to a lower vent that draws cooling air past the cooling unit and a roof vent that vents the hot air the cooling unit generates. Unfortunately, the RV's vent allows more than air in. Insects, like mud daubers, crawl into exposed air vents, make their nests and cause expensive damage to the appliance. To avoid costly repairs, install a mud dauber screen on your RV's refrigerator vent.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the mud dauber screen over the refrigerator's narrow vent. The refrigerator's vent is located on the exterior of the RV on the wall adjacent to the refrigerator.

    • 2

Affix one twist tie to each end of the screen. Thread the flat end of the twist tie through the left side of the mesh, around the leftmost slat in the vent's mouth and back out through the vent. Repeat on the right side of the vent.

    • 3

Thread the flat end of the tie through the plastic square on the opposite end of the tie. Pull the tie taut. Cut off the tie's excess length. Repeat for the screen's other tie.
