Why Is Condensation Water Leaking From Freezer Section Into My Amana Refrigerator?

Water is an important component in most Amana refrigerators, as many models have an ice and water filter and dispenser. Other models have an ice maker in the freezer section. However, when water in the form of condensation is leaking from the freezer section into the refrigerator section, you need to find out why.
  1. Humid Weather

    • When the outside temperature is hot and humid, the Amana refrigerator must work harder to maintain the set cooling temperature. This creates some moisture inside the unit, and this condensation may even drip or transfer between the compartments. You can set the temperature to a cooler setting temporarily, but this problem is normal and should disappear when the ambient temperature cools down.

    Door Opening

    • The same hot air that can cause condensation in the appliance during humid weather can enter the freezer or refrigerator when the doors to these compartments are opened too often. This allows warm air to enter the refrigerator or freezer that must be cooled, which creates condensation during the cooling process. When this happens rapidly or frequently, the condensation may develop to the point where the water leaks. Shorten the amount of time the doors are opened and try to open the doors less frequently.

    Door Gasket

    • A poor seal when the door closes can have the same effect as opening the doors often. Check the gasket on the freezer and refrigerator door and clean as needed with a damp cloth. Contact Amana if the gasket is split or needs to be replaced, and keep foods away from the door to create a better seal when the door is closed.

    Air Vents

    • While a full refrigerator or freezer might be a good thing in the sense that you have lots of food, too many items can block the air vents along the sides and rear. This reduces airflow and causes condensation, especially if the vents between the freezer and refrigerator are obstructed. Keep items a few inches away from all vents to allow for better air circulation and temperature management.
