My Kenmore Fridge Is Not Blowing Cold Air

A refrigerator is only useful if it is able to properly maintain your food at a cool temperature, and may be broken if it is not blowing out cold air while plugged into a power source. The appliance's temperature controls maintain the proper temperature for the refrigerator's interior by blowing cold air throughout the unit, and requires reconfiguration to restore airflow.
  1. Vents

    • The vents on the back interior of the refrigerator must be left uncovered to maintain air circulation, as cold air is released from the vents and pushed through the refrigerator's sections to maintain temperature. Large stored items may block the vents, causing the refrigerator to warm up due to restricted airflow.

    Power Source

    • The refrigerator's power cord may not be completely inserted into the electric outlet, and this can affect the refrigerator's ability to cool down. Alternatively, the current power outlet used to power the refrigerator may not provide enough energy to properly run the appliance.

    Temperature Adjustment

    • The temperature control button on the front of the refrigerator allows manual adjustments to the current temperature, and requires a decrease in the cooling temperature to ensure the refrigerator is blowing cold air instead of warm air. The refrigerator takes between 12 to 24 hours to lower to the new setting once it is changed.

    Fan Issues

    • A broken fan in the refrigerator is unable to run correctly, and therefore will not cool the refrigerator when the temperature control is adjusted. The fan runs on high for a period of time to initially cool down the refrigerator, and periodically runs to maintain the cold temperature. The malfunctioning fan must be replaced by an authorized repair technician to restore the appliance's cool temperature and should not be used until it can be professionally repaired.

    Demonstration Mode

    • Demo mode on the Kenmore refrigerator is a setting used to display the refrigerator in retail stores without running the refrigerator's cooling unit. While in demo mode the refrigerator is powered on but is not connected to a water supply line, and does not regulate its temperature. Pressing and holding "Ultra Temp" and "Fridge Ice" on the front of the refrigerator's control panel for five seconds while the fridge's door is open restarts the appliance into its normal cooling mode.
