The first thing to check is the orientation of the entire appliance. Look to see if it's sitting level on the floor. If your floors are uneven, you can adjust the feet on the unit to compensate. You may even need to add something under one side of the refrigerator to keep it level. If your Kenmore isn’t level, it could cause your icemaker to leak. Ice requires water for freezing, and the water enters the icemaker through a valve. If the molds used to freeze the ice aren’t level and in the perfect position, water may over-spray the target area and drip into the compartment below.
A leak in your Kenmore icemaker could be due to damaged or poorly connected water supply lines. Water rushes into the icemaker through plastic tubing leading from the main supply on the wall behind the unit. If these tubes are damaged or not tightly connected to the icemaker, they can leak water in small or large amounts, causing a major problem in your freezer. Replace and damaged hoses and check all connections for a tight fit.
The water inlet is the opening at the end of the supply line that feeds water to the icemaker. This opening can cause leaking, particularly if it's had considerable use and the water in your home has high mineral and sediment content. The water inlet on an icemaker uses a mesh screen to prevent foreign particles from getting into your ice cubes. While this filtering screen is designed to help, it can become caked with sediment, which increases water pressure and the stream of water intended for the cube tray to spray in the wrong direction. This can cause leaks. Clean the inlet and stop the leak associated with this problem.
The water valve on your icemaker opens to let water into the cube tray and closes to stop the water when full. With use, the valve can wear out and may not open and close as well as it once did. If the valve remains open even a slight amount, a constant trickle of water may drip from the icemaker. You'll have to replace the water valve to stop this drip.
