The Frigidaire Gallery Is Leaking Water From the Bottom

The Frigidaire Gallery is a line of consumer front-loading washing machines. As you use the washer, you can experience performance problems, such as a leak. When you encounter a leak from the bottom of your washer, you can troubleshoot on your own to try to stop it.
  1. Washer Door

    • If not cleaned regularly, the washer door can cause leaks. Over time, detergent residue can build up on the door seal. Left alone, this results in the door not sealing properly when closed, which could allow water to come out around the door. You might first notice the leak from the bottom of the washer, but that is because the water runs down the front of the machine before getting under it. Regularly cleaning around the seal with a clean cloth will prevent this type of leak.

    Fill Hoses

    • The bottom leak may actually originate from the fill hoses on the back of the washer. These are the hoses that connect to the water faucets at one end and the washing machine at the other end. The hoses can develop a leak at the connection, which can be fixed by tightening the connection. When one of the hoses develops a leak, it will run down the back and under the washer, which makes it look like the bottom of the washer is leaking.

    Detergent

    • Overloading the washing machine with detergent can result in excess soap suds. When this happens, the excess suds and water will leak out the bottom of the machine in the back. If you see soap suds and water coming out of the bottom vent on the back of the washer, this likely is your problem. To avoid this type of leak, use less detergent.

    Drain Hose

    • A loose drain hose can result in a leak from the bottom of the washer. The drain hose is connected to the back of the washer at the bottom of the unit. It simply pushes into place and locks. If you find it loose, just push it back in.

    Floor Drain

    • Water also can leak from the washer if the floor drain is clogged. When this happens, the water seems to flow out from the bottom of the machine. If this seems to be the problem, use some commercial drain cleaner to clear out the clog. If that does not work, you should consult with a local plumber to get the drain cleared out. Once it is clear, you should not have this type of leak.
