How to Install a Frigidaire Front Dispensing Ice Maker

Newer Frigidaire refrigerator models have the ice maker installed prior to purchase, but older models have a space for the ice maker for optional installation. The ice maker kit is available from Frigidaire and connects to your refrigerator's water supply line to produce ice for the dispenser. Once installed, the ice maker requires at least 24 hours to lower to the proper temperature and produce its first batch of ice. For best results, the first three batches of ice should be discarded to eliminate misshapen or foul-tasting ice.

Instructions

  1. Installing Ice Maker

    • 1

Remove the refrigerator's power cord from the power outlet and pull out the ice tray from inside of the freezer.

    • 2

Push the freezer shelf to the left and lift it out of the freezer. Pry off the plastic plugs on the freezer's interior walls with the putty knife blade.

    • 3

Turn the refrigerator around and unscrew the screws on the exterior condenser. The condenser is a metal grate, and must temporarily be moved to access the ice maker hole.

    • 4

Remove the ice maker cover on the back of the refrigerator in the upper-right corner. The ice maker cover is located underneath the condenser, and is accessible by pulling back the condenser.

    • 5

Pull out the foam in the ice maker's hole with the needle-nose pliers. Insert the water inlet tube into the hole by rotating it clockwise to secure it.

    • 6

Insert the plastic water supply tubing all the way into the water inlet tube. Turn the compression nut on the tubing to secure the water supply tubing to the water inlet tube. Continue turning the compression nut until it stops, and turn the compression nut a half turn with the adjustable wrench.

    • 7

Secure the leveling bracket to the bottom of the ice maker with one small screw. Insert the two long mounting screws into the freezer section's left interior wall, and secure the screws by completing five full clockwise turns.

    • 8

Hold the ice maker with your right hand and pull the wiring harness connector into the connector on the back of the freezer's interior.

    • 9

Set the ice maker onto the two mounting screws, and tighten the screws to secure the ice maker to the freezer's interior wall. Level the ice maker by ensuring there is equal space between the freezer wall and the top and bottom of the ice maker.

    • 10

Tighten the bracket on the ice maker to secure the device, and insert the freezer shelf into the lower shelf slot to reinstall it.

    • 11

Line up the water valve with the holes on the back panel of the refrigerator. Drill four screws into the screwholes on the water valve to connect it to the back panel.

    • 12

Insert the wire harness plug into the connector port on the water valve. Insert the plastic water supply tubing into the connector port on the bottom of the water valve, and tighten the compression nut by turning it clockwise with your fingers.

    • 13

Tighten the compression nut by performing a half-turn with the wrench. Wipe down the refrigerator's back cabinet with rubbing alcohol to clean it, and attach the plastic water supply tubing to the refrigerator's back with the plastic clamps found in the installation kit.

Connecting Ice Maker to Water Supply

    • 14

Set the water supply line in a clean bucket and turn the water supply's faucet to flush out the line. Turn off the faucet's water once the water runs clear by turning the shutoff valve to the right.

    • 15

Unscrew the cap off of the water valve inlet and place the compression nut and sleeve onto the water supply line. Insert the water supply line into the water inlet valve and secure the compression nut by turning it clockwise.

    • 16

Tighten the compression nut by turning it a half-turn with the wrench. Screw the water supply line to the refrigerator's rear panel to hold it in place.

    • 17

Rotate the excess water line behind the refrigerator to keep it from unraveling or touching the water valve.

    • 18

Turn the water shutoff valve at the left to restore water to the refrigerator and plug the refrigerator's power cord into the power outlet.

    • 19

Press the ice maker's wire arm down to power it on and begin the cooling process.
