Follow the water supply pipe to the shut-off valve where it meets the plumbing, and move the lever or dial to the position marked "Closed" or "Off." This shuts off the water supply to the appliance.
Move the refrigerator forward and locate the point where the water pipe meets the bottom of the rear panel. Place a towel on the ground; some water remains in the pipe despite the connection being turned off.
Loosen the nut nearest the floor by hand or with an adjustable wrench if necessary. Once loose, pull the pipe apart and direct any released water onto the towel. Keep the bolts in a safe place until you need to reconnect the refrigerator.
