How to Install an Auger Dispenser in a GE Refrigerator

The auger dispenser of a GE refrigerator’s ice dispenser bin is a long, twisted metal part that is used to separate the ice as it is made and crushed within the bin. When you first purchase your refrigerator you may need to assemble the ice dispenser yourself and fully install the auger. If you’re replacing the auger within the ice maker, then a new auger part can be purchased from an online retailer or order from the GE manufacturer.

Instructions

    • 1

Move your GE refrigerator away from the wall, and unplug the power supply from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Open the freezer door and insert the auger and ice crusher blade parts into the center of the ice dispenser bin at the top left corner of your freezer.

    • 3

Slide the C-clip part, which is a small metal clip, over the top end of the auger. Slide the back cover to the backside of the auger assembly, so that it snaps into place on the ice dispenser.

    • 4

Insert a Phillips screwdriver into bottom of the ice cube control linkage handle, located at the bottom of the ice dispenser. Slide the control up to the right side of the dispenser using the screwdriver.

    • 5

Put the top cover back on the ice dispenser and insert a Phillips screw into the inside portion of the cover.

    • 6

Insert two Phillips screws into the top of the ice cover. Close the freezer door, then reconnect the power cord back into the wall outlet.
