How to Change the Fan Engine in a Viking Refrigerator

Like all refrigerators, your Viking refrigerator is powered by a condenser. This is the motor, or engine, of the refrigerator. This condenser needs to stay cool, or else it can fail. It stays cool via a fan, which is mounted next to the condenser. If your refrigerator isn't staying cool, it could be the result of a damaged fan. You can remove and replace the fan on your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Viking refrigerator, unplug it, and move it away from the wall.

    • 2

Remove the screws on the access panel located at the rear of the refrigerator. This panel will be located near the bottom of the unit.

    • 3

Remove the panel to expose the internal components of the Viking. The fan assembly will now be visible, mounted next to the basketball-sized condenser.

    • 4

Unplug the wiring harness connected to the fan assembly.

    • 5

Remove the mounting bolts holding the fan in place with a wrench.

    • 6

Remove the fan assembly from the unit.

    • 7

Fit a new fan in the compartment and replace the mounting screws and wiring harness.

    • 8

Replace the rear panel of the refrigerator.
